Artist Alex Ruiz created this digital painting envisioning one of the nights Vincent Van Gogh worked on his iconic painting The Starry Night.
“This is an homage to him, and to his painting, one of my all time favorites. We see him standing here, looking up at the night sky…probably in awe, as he wondered how he would capture the beauty he saw. As well, this was the view from the sanitarium he was staying at, as it’s well known that the poor guy was quite mentally troubled.”What a wonderful concept. While we know that The Starry Night was actually painted from memory during the day, it’s much more romantic to picture Van Gogh working outdoors at night. There is something bittersweet about Alex Ruiz’s stunning sky full of stars spread above the humble painter with his easel, canvas and a single candle. One driven and troubled man with his own little light standing beneath a sky brimming with stars. Pretty awesome.
